Need Assessment

Brief Description of topic: Needs assessment is a systematic process used to profile population needs, resources, and readiness. This process includes the review and collection of community-level data. Data-driven decision-making and planning will help ensure that appropriate issues are targeted and that the appropriate target geographic area and/or population are identified. For help in this section we have many resources provided including the Needs Assessment workbook, the description and link to ASPIRE which is a web-based data system designed to store and manage indicator and resource data, and information regarding OMNI’s survey and corresponding tools.

ASPIRE
Assessment of Prevention Indicators and Resources (ASPIRE) online system, can be a very helpful tool for a needs assessment process. This system contains tools for each step in our Needs Assessment process except step # 3, survey data. More information regarding survey tools may be found below or by contacting your local RPC.

ASPIRE is a web-based data system designed to store and manage indicator and resource data that can be queried to meet the user’s needs. ASPIRE contains indicator data within numerous domains such as demographics, early care and education, community and civic involvement, mental health, and substance abuse and treatment.

The interactive GIS Mapping feature allows the creation of images that illustrate the distribution of indicators and resources across Colorado. Additionally, the ASPIRE system contains community readiness and coalition assessment tools and a reporting function that organizes output in a strategic plan document. More information regarding ASPIRE may be found in the ASPIRE introduction document.

Data collected from the HKCS will monitor how the priority health-risk behaviors among middle and high school students increase, decrease, or remain the same over time as well as inform school health education policies and programs.

Included is the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey User’s Guide. This guide is intended to help schools and communities better understand their survey results.
